Padel Court Statistics Report 2024

Padel court statistics report 2024

This padel court statistics report includes data that is accurate up to the year-end of 2023 and is being reported in 2024.

Note: This report excludes Latin America due to unreliable data.

Countries that searched for padel courts the most in 2023

Over 2023, Padel has been booming and more and more people are searching on Google for ‘padel courts’.

This includes a mix of people wanting to play and clubs/facilities looking to build indoor and outdoor courts.

This table of countries shows where padel is trending and it’s no surprise that the top 5 countries (South Africa, UAE, Kuwait, UK, and Portugal) are significantly ramping up their court-building efforts.

Interestingly, a country as big as the US doesn’t even make the top 10 for padel court searches which just shows how much potential there is still for the sport to grow in the states.

Map of countries with padel courts vs without

This map shows the countries that have padel courts available for the public to play on.

As you can see, Padel has spread widely across the globe but there are still latecomers.

It was only in October 2023 that New Zealand added their first court in Auckland.

Number of padel courts in Europe by country

It’s no surprise that Spain has the most padel courts in Europe (15,300) as it’s a fully established sport with mainstream media coverage.

In fact, Padel is Spain’s second most popular sport, surpassing tennis, and only missing out on the top spot to Football (Soccer).

Italy and Sweden have also seen recent booms in padel court installations and are now also a mature market with 6,470 and 4,200 courts respectively.

Germany and the UK, however, are seriously lagging behind with only 250 courts each.

Although both countries are expected to heavily invest into the sport over the coming years.

Increase in padel courts in Europe by country

While the established markets in Italy (1,800), Spain (1,300), and Sweden (700) have installed the most padel courts in Europe between 2022-2023.

What is more interesting is the pace at which the emerging market is adding courts.

Norway, the UK, and Germany have near enough doubled the number of padel courts available to the public by 122%, 100%, and 92% respectively.

Projected padel court growth by 2026

By 2026, the number of padel courts is expected to more than double (+112.5%) from 40,000 currently to 85,000.

This rapid rate of growth is due to the sport being in its infancy in many countries and its global popularity soaring.

Investors have identified the potential and it’s a race to build courts!

Padel court statistics overview by country/region

Padel court statistics in Spain

Spain has 4,100 padel court venues, 15,300 courts, 3.7 courts per venue, and 325 courts per million people.

A global increase in the demand for padel court construction has benefitted the Spanish market the most as more established manufacturers have the infrastructure to cater to delivering courts internationally.

Padel court statistics in Sweden

Sweden has 1,050 padel court venues, 4,000 courts, 3.8 courts per venue, and 385 courts per million people.

Sweden endured an overproduction of court installations as padel took the country by storm in recent years with 7% of the population being players.

This caused the closure of around 600 courts by 2022 (largely due to the impact of COVID-19), however, new projects are still being backed in the country.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (retired Swedish football legend) opened his own Padel court centre, Padel Zenter in 2023.

Padel court statistics in France, UK, and Germany

France, the UK, and Germany are big (potential) European players emerging in the padel market.

However, for now, their numbers are very modest…

Collectively France, the UK, and Germany have 850 padel court venues, 2,000 courts, 2.4 courts per venue, and just 9.1 courts per million people.

Padel court statistics in the United States

The United States has just 56 padel court venues, 180 courts, 3.2 courts per venue, and a mere 0.5 courts per million people.

The USPA has gone on record in the Padel Magazine stating that they believe they’ll have around 30,000 padel courts by 2030.

That’s some serious ambition, but also not a surprise as padel looks to overtake pickleball in the US which has already boomed in the country.

Padel court statistics in the Middle East

Combined, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia have 600 padel court venues, 1,850 courts, 3.1 courts per venue, and 35 courts per million people.

Investment into this sport is growing rapidly.

In 2023, the Qatar Sports Investment (QIS) took a majority stake in the International Padel Federation to organise the professional global scene.

However, there was a fierce struggle for dominance over professional padel as Setpoint Events, who own the World Padel Tour, were pushing their organisation for governing control over the sport.

But, now in 2024, QIS has acquired the Setpoint and therefore the World Padel Tour which will be shut down at the end of the current season.

Qatar is essentially now the ‘owner’ of professional padel.

Overall padel court market

Number of padel courts built in 2023

9,568 total padel courts were built in 2023 in Europe, North America, and the Middle East.

However, full data is not available for the full year from each region so this is the most accurate estimate we have available.

We will update this statistic once we receive more data.

Number of UK ‘Padel’ Companies registered each year

The UK padel scene is set to boom and this graph showcases that with an exponential growth curve of new padel companies opening up.

In 2019, only 7 new padel companies were registered in the UK, 4 years later in 2023 and 131 new companies were established.

That’s a whopping 1771% increase!

Conclusion

After thorough research and bringing together various reports to provide this data, one trend is clear…

The padel court market is growing quickly and is set for rapid global expansion.

The Middle East, the US, and the UK are set to make big moves in the coming years and it’s an exciting time for padel fans everywhere.

Soon, you’ll be able to go on holiday and find courts to play on wherever you’re headed.

We can’t wait!
